Ian McKellen says his fat suit saved him from more serious injuries after falling on stage | Ian McKellen | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

Ian McKellen gives an update on how he is doing after his fall on stage.

More than two months ago, 85-year-old actor John Falstaff played in a production of Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2in London's West End and during the show on June 17, he lost his footing during a fight scene and fell off the stage.

Shortly after the incident Ian dropped out of the game.

In a new interview Ian looked back at the fall and realized that wearing a fat suit had spared him a more serious injury.

Read on to find out more…“For Falstaff I wore a fat suit that protected my ribs and other joints,” Ian said Britain's Saga Magazine in an interview published on Tuesday (20 August).

Ian He further said that he has still not fully recovered from the fall.

“My fractured vertebra and my broken wrist have not healed yet,” Ian he revealed. “I don't go out because I'm afraid someone will bump into me. I also have excruciating pain in my shoulders because my whole body has been shaken.”

He then went into detail about how the fall happened.

“It was in the fight scene. My foot got caught on a chair and as I tried to shake it off, I started slipping on a newspaper that was scattered across the stage, like I was on a skateboard.” Ian explained. “The more I tried to get rid of it, the faster I slid down a step, onto the proscenium, and then onto the lap of someone in the front row.”

He continued: “I started screaming, 'Help me!' and then 'I'm sorry! I'm not doing this!' Extraordinary things. I thought this was the end of something. It was very disturbing.”

In an interview before the accident he said: Ian dealt with the possibility of a return to the Lord of the rings Franchise to play Gandolf again.
