IPD investigates reported attack as hate crime

ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – Authorities are investigating a reported assault in the city of Ithaca.

According to Ithaca Police, the crime occurred on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Cascadilla Street. Police say a white male on a bicycle attacked someone and allegedly made derogatory comments about the victim's gender identity. The incident is being investigated as a hate crime. The suspect is described as being in his mid-20s to early 30s, with curly black hair, black sweatpants, and a light-colored t-shirt.

IPD says the victim did not know the attacker, who was last seen riding a black bicycle with wide tires and rounded handlebars. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ithaca Police.
