Father and son from Steuben County arrested for involvement in Capitol riots on January 6

A father and son from Steuben County were arrested last week for their alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. Charles Schimmel Sr. and Logan Schimmel are accused of being among the first rioters to breach the Capitol, court documents show.

The couple reportedly attended the “Stop the Steal” rally before joining the mob that stormed the Capitol. Photos released by the U.S. Attorney's Office show the Schimmels on the front lines, clashing with Capitol Police and entering restricted areas such as the House Speaker's office suite.

Both were arrested on August 14 and face charges including obstruction of law enforcement during a civil unrest and disorderly conduct in the Capitol.
