On Monday, Hamas accused the British government of supporting Israel in its military operations in the Gaza Strip.

Sources from the Palestinian group said Al Jazeera Arabic that the British government is collecting intelligence for Israel as it continues its attack on Gaza.

The sources also claimed that this cooperation was carried out jointly with the US, adding that Britain was directly responsible for the “killing of thousands of women and children” in Gaza.

The Palestinian group has called on Britain to immediately end its military cooperation with Israel.

Al Jazeera Arabic noted that the UK-based publication Declassified Britain had reported that both US and British military aircraft had taken off from British military bases in Cyprus to carry out surveillance missions over Gaza.

The new Arab has asked the British government for a response.

Shortly after the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak vowed that his country would support Israel in the search for prisoners in the Gaza Strip.

Shortly afterwards, British media reported that Britain was supporting the “international effort” to find the prisoners. Its intelligence services were “actively involved” in sharing information that could help “find missing persons” kidnapped by Hamas fighters.

The British government was also criticised for its refusal to stop arms exports to Israel; a British Foreign Office diplomat resigned from his post over this.

In his resignation email, he wrote that the British government had no “justification for Britain's continued arms sales to Israel,” particularly given the “clear and incontrovertible examples of war crimes and violations of international humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip” committed by Israel.

Israel's war against Gaza has so far killed at least 40,173 people and injured another 92,857. The enclave has been a humanitarian disaster and large parts of the enclave have been reduced to rubble.
