Murder charges filed; police say boy had cocaine in his system

The parents of a two-year-old boy who died in December with a “significant amount” of cocaine in his system are now accused of murder in Spotsylvania.

Cinceir Croxton, 24, and Kahleighya D. Coleman, 22, were indicted on Monday by a grand jury in Spotsylvania on charges of murder and various drug offenses.

They have already been accused of crimes such as child endangerment, child neglect and child abuse. Murder carries a sentence of up to 40 years in prison.

The child died at a Richmond hospital on December 6. He had been taken there after becoming ill the previous day. The couple had brought the child to Richmond on December 5 to attend a court hearing for Coleman, and his health deteriorated drastically after they returned to the Spotsylvania motel where they had been staying.

According to evidence presented at an earlier hearing, the couple stayed at the motel while the child was taken back to VCU Medical Center in Richmond for treatment. A doctor told police that the child had a significant amount of cocaine in his system at the time of his death, court records show.

The couple was still in the motel watching a video game on the television when police returned with a search warrant. Three ounces of cocaine were found in the room, along with about $4,000 in cash and several firearms.

At the time of his arrest in Spotsylvania, Croxton was already facing four counts of drug trafficking in Caroline for making controlled buys more than a month before the child's death. He has since pleaded guilty to two of those charges and was sentenced in April in Caroline to a total of 20 years in prison, with all but one year and two months suspended, court records show.

Court dates for the two in Spotsylvania have not yet been set. Both are being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
