1 dead after accident at intersection in Lexington County

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) – One person was killed and another was injured in an accident on Augusta Highway Tuesday afternoon.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday on the Augusta Highway near Olde Farm Road, about two miles west of Lexington.

According to SCHP, a 2016 Kia Forte with two passengers was traveling toward Augusta Highway. The Kia struck a 2017 GMC Acadia with two passengers traveling in the opposite direction as it attempted to turn left onto Olde Farm Road.

The driver and passenger of the Kia were both taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where they were treated for their injuries. Police said the passenger died at the hospital.

According to SCHP, the driver and passenger of the GMC were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by SCHP.
