Bengals defensive end Myles Murphy avoids serious injury

CINCINNATI — Bengals defensive end Myles Murphy left practice with the Colts on Tuesday after suffering a knee injury.

The 22-year-old changed direction in the hope of making a play in the backfield and suffered a non-contact injury.

Fortunately, he only suffered a sprain, league sources tell Bengals Talk. He'll be out for some time, but considering how he went down and how serious non-contact injuries can be, that's good news.

The Bengals are still evaluating the schedule, but the second-year pro still has a chance to attack in Week 1. Even if he doesn't make it back for the opening game against the Patriots, he's not expected to be out for an extended period of time.

Murphy carefully left the field and was wheeled into the locker room. He limped in the locker room but did not use crutches or a splint.

Murphy was at Paycor Stadium for nearly three hours after practice and did not leave the team facility until about 7:15 p.m. ET. Practice ended about 4:20 p.m. and the Bengals did not have any meetings after the session.

This is great news for the Bengals and for Murphy. Hopefully he recovers quickly and is ready for the start of the regular season when the Patriots come to town on September 8th.
