A Jackson, Missouri man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for distributing fentanyl, which led to a fatal overdose of a 25-year-old victim in December 2022. The sentence was announced by U.S. District Judge Matthew T. Schelp.

Dylan C. McMikle, 22, admitted to selling the victim several lines of fentanyl powder in the early morning hours of December 16, 2022. The victim, who was battling a severe addiction, purchased a capsule of fentanyl from McMikle and left his home around 6 a.m. Tragically, the victim succumbed to an overdose later that evening.

After the victim's death, investigators discovered messages between McMikle and the victim discussing obtaining fentanyl. McMikle consented to a search of his residence, during which officers discovered a small package of fentanyl powder and several fentanyl tablets.

McMikle pleaded guilty to fentanyl trafficking in February. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack Koester and investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force and the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Another person involved in the case pleaded guilty last year and admitted to buying fentanyl from McMikle.
