KCPD announces arrests in connection with recent series of property crimes in Waldo and Brookside

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – Kansas City police announced Wednesday that arrests have been made in a wave of vandalism throughout the Brookside and Waldo areas.

The KCPD announced online that investigators from the Metro Property Crimes Division had arrested two people under the age of 18 who were suspected in “dozens of crimes.”

Because the suspects are minors, their identities are not being released, but they are “in the hands of the legal system,” the KCPD said.

On August 14, over 100 residents of the Brookside and Waldo neighborhoods gathered to ask the KCPD what they were doing to put an end to the seemingly endless crime. Many of the residents had been repeatedly victims of car break-ins and other acts of vandalism. Businesses were also frequently targeted.

“The car thefts have gone crazy. There have been four car thefts in our family alone,” resident Terry Hudson told KCTV5 at the meeting.

In response, KCPD cited staffing issues, the heavy workload of 911 dispatchers and the realities of the law enforcement system. They said the best thing community members can do is continue to call and report crimes.

The KCPD expanded on its post and said that investigations into these crimes are still ongoing.

“These investigators have worked diligently to build a compelling case that will enable a successful prosecution. Their investigation is ongoing as they continue to review evidence that may link the suspects to additional crimes.”
