After a multi-vehicle accident, I-15 becomes a parking lot during the morning rush hour

The morning rush hour was disrupted when all lanes on southbound I-15 through Davis County were closed following an accident involving at least half a dozen vehicles.

The crash occurred around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday morning in Woods Cross, turning six miles of Utah's busiest highway into a virtual parking lot. Traffic jams ensued on nearby Highway 89 and Legacy Parkway as drivers tried to avoid the interstate.

Around 45 minutes after the accident, emergency services managed to recover part of the wreckage and allow traffic to pass through the part where no diversion was possible. While the accident site was being cleared, drivers had to expect lane closures at times.

UHP confirmed to 2News that there were no injuries in the accident and no arrests were made.

It was not immediately known what might have caused the incident or whether anyone had been reported.

Authorities did not say whether there is any suspicion that inattentive or fatigued driving played a role.

The lanes were reopened before 9:00 a.m., but emergency services were still on site working to clear the scene of the accident.

The closure and reopening of the accident scene caused ongoing traffic problems for southbound commuters between the Farmington Lagoon area and nearly to the I-215 interchange in North Salt Lake.
