Recently released Red Sox first baseman says a simple and friendly goodbye to Boston fans

Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas returned last week after a four-month absence, forcing the team to make a roster decision. They decided to call up first baseman Dom Smith.

After the 29-year-old passed the waivers list, he was released by the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Smith joined the Red Sox this year to split time at first base with Garrett Cooper while Casas was out with an injury. He eventually got the job and played well until the end.

In 83 games with Boston, Smith batted .237 with a .706 OPS, six home runs and 34 RBIs. In his final 35 games, he batted .284 with a .845 OPS, three home runs and 12 RBIs.

After the news was announced that the team had officially released Smith, the first baseman posted a simple, sweet farewell message on social media to the fans in Boston, with whom he said he feels a great connection.

Smith's tenure with the Red Sox may have been short, but he is always welcome in Boston.
