2005 murder of 28-year-old Jacksonville man back in the spotlight as JSO searches for clues

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is shining a spotlight on a murder investigation that began nearly 20 years ago.

It began when a passerby discovered a body near the 1300 block of Ribault Scenic Drive around noon on Thursday, June 23, 2005.

28-year-old Andre Johnson was found along the shore between some rocks on the Ribault River.

JSO described the case in detail in a video posted on YouTube.

Johnson was found with numerous wounds and the coroner ruled his death a homicide due to blunt force trauma.

At the time of his discovery, Johnson had not been seen by his family members for about a week.

JSO investigators worked for several years to find a possible murder suspect, but all leads were exhausted and no more clues came in. Now the JSO is reopening the case and asking the public for help.

Anyone with information that could help investigators solve Johnson's murder is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or email [email protected]. To remain anonymous and receive a cash reward, call First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS or **TIPS (star 8477).
