Judge names trial location for suspected murderer of Maddi Kingsbury

Winona, MN (KROC-AM News) – A Winona County judge has announced the location for the upcoming trial of the man accused of murder Madeline Kingsbury.

30-year-old Adam Fravel is charged with two counts of first and second degree murder for killing the 27-year-old Winona woman last year and leaving her body on a gravel road in Fillmore County. The case attracted international media attention after Maddi Kingsbury was reported missing on March 31, 2023, for failing to report to her job at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

She was last seen alive with Fravel when they dropped off their children at daycare that morning. After her disappearance, Fravel told investigators the couple returned to their home in Winona and he left later that morning to run some errands. When he returned that afternoon, Kingsbury was gone.

According to the charges, Fravel later told investigators that his relationship with Maddi was ending and they were preparing to move out of their Winona apartment. Court documents also say he stated that Kingsbury told him that she had started seeing someone else about two weeks before she disappeared and that she was looking for an apartment for herself and her children.

Fravel was arrested after Kingsbury's body was discovered in bushes off a gravel road north of Mabel. The indictment says the location was near Fravel's parents' home, where he was taken into custody.

Court records describe a tumultuous relationship between Fravel and Kingsbury that allegedly included physical abuse. The two met while attending Winona State University and investigators say they had an on-off relationship that produced two young children.

The judge hearing the case had previously granted a defense request to change venue because the case had attracted significant attention in the Winona area, but did not specify where the trial would take place. In an order issued today, the judge ordered the trial to take place at the Blue Earth County Justice Center in Mankato.
