Mayor Rick Meehan speaks out after fatal tram accident in Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Maryland – Mayor Rick Meehan is speaking out following the fatal incident in which a toddler was struck by a streetcar on the Ocean City boardwalk.

Details are limited as the investigation is still ongoing. but mayor Meehan said this This is something he never thought possible in his community, So they bundle all possible support for the family.

“Our concern today is with the family in this time of grief,” said Mayor Meehan. “We cannot imagine what they are feeling today. I know how we feel. So our concern is with them and we are doing what we can to help them.”

It is unclear what caused the incident, but Mayor Meehan said that the tram would not be in operation for the foreseeable future.

“We have suspended tram service at this point out of an abundance of caution. We don't have all the answers or solutions, but the city manager immediately agreed that this was the right thing to do and we all agreed 100 percent.”
