Woman arrested for 2020 murder in Miami-Dade

MIAMI DADE COUNTY, Florida. – Nearly four years ago, a woman was arrested in Miami-Dade County for the murder of a man.

Investigators identified the victim of the 2020 murder as John Bullard, who died at the age of 44 from a gunshot wound to the chest.

According to Miami-Dade Detective Melanie Ginoris's most recent arrest warrant application, the fatal shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. on September 5, 2020 in Richmond Heights.

Ginoris, a Miami-Dade homicide investigator since 2021, reported that Luz “Lucy” Ozuna told investigators on Sept. 18, 2020, that she was at 14741 Harrison Street during the shooting.

“She was outside the residence with another individual, which was confirmed by video footage obtained from the residence,” Ginoris wrote, according to the arrest warrant.

According to the arrest warrant, Ginoris stated that evidence in the case included data from seized cell phones that showed Ozuna had communicated with a suspect using the TextNow app.

As of Wednesday afternoon, inmate records showed that Ozuna, 37, was in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed burglary.

Miami-Dade County District Judge Laura María González-Marqués issued a no-bail warrant on Sunday. Corrections officers arrested Ozuna shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Court records show Ozuna's defense has entered a written plea of ​​not guilty and her detention hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday and her arraignment is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Sept. 10.

District Judge Zachary N. James will preside over the case.
