Rain delays closure of SR 167, but weekend traffic problems continue

Motorists in the greater Seattle area had to prepare for a weekend of significant traffic delays due to the closure of three major roads. However, a planned closure of SR 167 southbound was postponed due to the forecast of rainy weather.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced in an X-post on Wednesday that the closure of southbound SR 167 between SR 516/Willis St/Kent Des Moines Rd (MP 20) and S 277th St (MP 18) has been postponed. The closure was originally scheduled to begin this Friday, August 23, but will be postponed to a later date.

Despite this delay, drivers are still being warned to prepare for what WSDOT called a “problem” on Seattle's roads this weekend, as there will be two more major closures. The closures will affect I-405 and northbound SR 520, both of which will be closed continuously for 54 hours starting Friday night.

The closures are part of ongoing projects, including the SR 520 Montlake project and the I-405 Renton to Bellevue widening and express toll lane project. WSDOT has stressed that careful planning and development of alternate routes are critical to avoiding severe traffic delays.

WSDOT urges motorists to check for updates and plan ahead to navigate the weekend, which could still be challenging for traffic in the Seattle area.
