Attempted murder charges filed in Bolingbrook arson case – Shaw Local

A Bolingbrook man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after he set fire to a homeless man who later died from his injuries.

On August 15, a grand jury indicted 21-year-old Turdor Ereba on charges of attempted premeditated murder in the death of 35-year-old Kevin Wilson. In a court document, prosecutors said Wilson was a homeless man who suffered injuries in a July 24 fire outside the Levy Center, 251 Canterbury Lane, Bolingbrook.

Ereba is accused of intentionally committing an act that constituted a “substantial step” toward premeditated murder by setting Wilson’s fire.

Ereba is also accused of aggravated assault on Wilson by pouring a flammable substance on him and then setting it on fire, as well as aggravated arson at the Levy Center.

On August 16, Will County Judge John Connor granted a request by prosecutors to keep Ereba incarcerated in the Will County Jail under the SAFE-T Act.

Connor signed a court order stating that he believed Ereba posed a danger to other people and the community and that there were no conditions in place that would “reduce the potential harm from arson.”

Connor's court order said Ereba's alleged arson at Little Caesars in Bolingbrook on May 21 was “indicative of [an] attacking nature.”

Ereba was charged with arson at the pizzeria and criminal damage to the restaurant premises on May 24. Despite prosecutors' requests to keep Ereba in jail, Will County Judge Donald DeWilkins granted Ereba's release before trial.

DeWilkins' May 24 court order for Ereba's pretrial release did not require house arrest or electronic monitoring, court records show.

Both parties in Ereba's case plan to discuss possible issues with his mental health at a future court hearing.
