Two charges dropped against man charged in 2023 for fatal car crash and death of 17-year-old girl

DAKOTA CITY, Nebraska (KTIV) – Two charges have been dropped against the man accused in the death of a teenager following a fatal crash.

Chad Bundy, 50, of Hooper, Nebraska, was charged in July 2024 in connection with the death of 17-year-old Kassandra Claassen. The charges included vehicular manslaughter, failure to stop and render aid/serious injury or death, and a loading violation.

Court records now show that two of those three charges were dropped during a hearing on Wednesday, August 21.

Only the charges of failure to stop and render aid and failure to cause great bodily harm or death were sent to Dakota County District Court, while prosecutors requested that the charges of vehicular manslaughter and charging violation be dismissed without prejudice, meaning they can be refiled.

This request was granted by the judge.

As KTIV previously reported, on April 27, 2023, authorities said a metal pipe fell from a truck and struck the windshield of Claassen's Jeep, striking her in the chest. The incident caused the Jeep to roll over on Highway 35 west of Dakota City, Nebraska.
