Suspect in Maria Gomez Perez case held without bail

On Wednesday, August 21, a bail hearing was held in the case of Antonio Agustin-Ailon, the 34-year-old Guatemalan nationalist accused in the disappearance of Maria Gomez-Perez. Perez was the target of a two-month search after she vanished from her home on May 29.

Augustin appeared at the bail hearing with his attorney and agreed to remain in custody without bail.

The Tuscarawas County grand jury indicted him on August 9 on six counts of obstruction of custody, rape, sexual assault and distribution of sexually oriented material involving a minor. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Ohio on Friday, August 16.

His pretrial conference, at which a trial will be scheduled, is scheduled for September 5.
