Report: Kevin Paredes to miss Wolfsburg's first two games due to foot injury

Wolfsburg faces a tough test in their first Bundesliga game of the season against Bayern Munich and will reportedly have to do without young striker Kevin Paredes.

Paredes will miss at least two games due to a foot injury at the start of the season, Kicker reported on Wednesday. The US national team winger/full-back did not play in VfL Wolfsburg's 1-0 win against Koblenz in the DFB Cup last weekend due to the injury.

He is expected to play more on the right side of Wolfsburg's attack, a change from the left wing/full-back role that Paredes has held for the past two seasons.

“For me, he is an option in this position,” said Wolfsburg coach Ralph Hasenhüttl. “He can move inside with his left foot and can score goals. Kevin is a very offensive-minded winger who has also shown defensively that he can play from the start.”

Paredes is entering his third season with the Bundesliga team since joining from MLS side DC United. The 21-year-old scored three goals in 29 appearances last season and played 1,454 minutes on the pitch.

In total, Paredes played 55 times for Wolfsburg, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

After a busy summer with the U.S. Olympic team, Paredes is unlikely to be available for the international break in September.

Wolfsburg will face Bayern Munich and Holstein Kiel in their first two games before the FIFA break.
