Minnesota Governor and Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz spoke about the personal impact of fertility regulation at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Wednesday. The evening focused on fighting “for our freedoms,” from democracy to reproductive rights and more.

In his acceptance speech for his nomination, Walz spoke about the difficulties he and his wife had in conceiving children.

“If you've never experienced the hell of infertility, I guarantee you know someone who has. And I can remember praying for a phone call every night, the sinking feeling in my stomach when the phone rang, and the horrible feeling when we heard the treatments hadn't worked,” Walz said.

When it comes to reproductive rights, Walz says, Minnesotans have one golden rule: “Mind your own shit.”

Walz's speech came one day before Vice President Kamala Harris takes the stage as the official candidate.
