“He’s fine” after foot injury

Take a deep breath, Lions fans. Calm your pulse, control your heart rate, and swallow the fear that gripped Lions fans Wednesday afternoon.

When it was announced at the Lions' final preseason practice that All-Pro right tackle Penei Sewell had to leave the session with a foot injury that required further evaluation, it caused panic. Fortunately, an initial report from well-informed Lions reporter Justin Rogers indicates that all should be well.

“He's fine,” Rogers quoted a Lions source as saying regarding Sewell and his injured left foot.

That's an optimistic, ambiguous statement. The same basic message was spread about cornerback Terrion Arnold after he suffered a chest injury in practice nine days ago and still hasn't returned to the field. But it bodes well that Sewell's injury isn't serious enough to require surgery or an extended absence from the field.

Detroit begins the regular season on September 8, giving Sewell 18 days to recover and prepare for the Rams.
