Dearborn police investigate shooting in Benihana parking lot; 2 injured

Dearborn police are investigating a shooting Wednesday night that left two people injured in the parking lot of a restaurant near the Fairlane shopping center, authorities said.

Police responded to the incident just before 9 p.m. in Benihana on Hubbard Drive near Fairlane Town Center. Two victims were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Dearborn police Cpl. Dan Bartok said.

A preliminary investigation indicated a possible shootout between the parties. There are no suspects in custody, Bartok said, and there is no danger to the public.

The police were still on site at 10:30 p.m. and some guests were in the restaurant, although the restaurant was supposed to close at 10:00 p.m.

At least 20 shell casings were marked by police in the parking lot and a white GMC Acadia SUV had multiple bullet holes on the driver's side. Police apparently searched the exterior and interior of the SUV.
