Deputy sheriff arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at a fisherman in Waianae

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu police have arrested Dibiano Bontog after the 35-year-old deputy sheriff allegedly pointed a gun at a fisherman in Waianae on Monday afternoon.

According to sources, a physical altercation occurred after Bontog, who was off-duty, began filming a man throwing a net near the Mailiili Stream in an area known as “Green Lanterns.”

Bontog reportedly asked the man to stop because he was not allowed to fish in the area.

The Department of Law Enforcement has placed Bontog on leave and condemned his actions.

“We will not tolerate this kind of behavior,” said DLE Director Jordan Lowe. “We have to build trust and one way to build trust is to take responsibility and that's what we're striving for… that transparency, that accountability and building that relationship with the community, that's paramount to us.”

Lowe says Dibiano was assigned to airport patrol and released on bail.

Charges are still pending.
