21-year-old charged with murder of Florida mother

A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with a shooting that resulted in the death of a 53-year-old mother in Florida.

District Attorney Bill Gladson announced the grand jury indictment of 21-year-old Donald Donell Jamison in connection with the July 30, 2024, shooting that left 53-year-old Claudia Barbosa dead and another person injured.

Jamison was charged with one count of first degree premeditated murder with a firearm, one count of attempted first degree premeditated murder, two counts of robbery with a firearm, and one count of fleeing a police officer.

On the day of the incident, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) received a 911 call reporting that two people had been shot at a Brooksville restaurant. The caller stated that the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. When emergency responders arrived, they found Claudia and the second victim with apparent gunshot wounds.

Claudia Barbosa was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis and his police officers worked diligently to investigate the incident and arrest the suspect responsible. HCSO officers were able to obtain surveillance footage and confirm information from several witnesses on the scene.

According to police, a statewide alert was sent about the suspicious vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the Florida Highway Patrol observed a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop.

When police made contact with the driver, later identified as Jamison, the description of the suspect given by witnesses matched his identity.

Jamison was arrested and transported back to Hernando County to be interviewed by HCSO investigators. While in custody, Jamison attempted to flee but was immediately apprehended and arrested.

The prosecution said it recognizes the seriousness of this case and its profound impact on the victim's family and the community. As the legal process continues, the prosecution pledged to continue to work for justice and accountability for all.
