Worker crushed to death at Ohio auto factory, reports say

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Jeep plant worker reportedly died Wednesday after being crushed at work.

WTOL Channel 11 reports that emergency crews were called to the Toledo Assembly Complex Wednesday afternoon. The plant manufactures Jeep Gladiators, WTOL reports.

Few details have been released about the incident. The Blade reports that a spokesperson for Stellantis, Jeep's parent company, acknowledged that one of its employees was involved in an incident but declined to provide further information.

WTVG Channel 13 reported that the U.S. Department of Labor said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was conducting an investigation.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur of Toledo released a statement to WTVG offering condolences to the worker's family and co-workers. She also said the workers have raised concerns about job safety in the past.

“I call on the federal agencies at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Stellantis and its suppliers to exhaust all necessary resources to ensure the safety and well-being of the brave men and women who go to work in these facilities every day,” Kaptur said in the statement. “All parties must honor the promises made to workers and promote an enduring culture of worker safety. I will continue to monitor the results of the mandated investigations that will take place in the coming days.”
