Six dead and 22 injured as school bus plunges into ravine – Rising Kashmir

Leh, Aug 22: At least six people, including two children, lost their lives in a tragic accident near Durbuk in Leh on Thursday when a school bus skidded off the road and rolled into a deep ravine. Authorities said 22 others were also injured in the accident, many of them seriously.

The bus of Lamdon School in Leh was on its way from Leh to Durbuk when the tragedy occurred around 11:30 am. The vehicle went out of control and plunged into the gorge before it could reach its destination.

Leh District Magistrate Santosh Sukhadeva told Rising Kashmir about the casualties and the severity of the injuries. “Six people have died and 22 have been injured, many of them seriously. They are being brought to Leh by helicopter,” Sukhadeva said. The seriously injured are being airlifted to Leh, with both the Army and the District Hospital in Leh being mobilized to provide urgent medical care.

The rescue operation, which began immediately after the accident, is almost complete. The authorities are working tirelessly to provide the necessary assistance to all those involved.
