There have been some changes at the administrative level in Bangladesh cricket recently, with Faruque Ahmed replacing Nazmul Hassan, who recently resigned from the post.

Bangladesh are currently in Pakistan playing a two-Test series against the Shan Masood-led team. Meanwhile, newly elected President Ahmed has hinted that Tamim Iqbal could return to the Bangladesh team.

“I'll have to talk to him [Tamim]. He is a very sensible boy. I think he is one of the best from Bangladesh. If you ask me personally, I would like him to play for another two or three years. But just because I want that doesn't mean it will happen. We have to see how he is in terms of fitness.” Faruque told the media.

Notably, Tamim has not played a single game for the Tigers since September 2023. Tamim's return is also a worrying sign for Shakib Al Hasan as things are not going well between the two experienced players.

What happened between Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal?

During preparations for the 2023 World Cup in India, Iqbal was playing against New Zealand when he sustained a back injury. He was later not named in the squad for the World Cup, which led to Iqbal blaming the board.

There were claims that Iqbal was asked to bat further down the batting order. He denied this request, saying that he had never batted in the middle batting order in his entire career.

Shakib, meanwhile, hit back at Iqbal, saying the opener was not a team player and called him childish. Tamim, in particular, had once announced his retirement and then reversed his decision.
