Former Douglas County Probate Judge Christina Peterson expected in court

ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – The former Douglas County judge accused of beating an Atlanta police officer at a Buckhead nightclub is expected in court Thursday.

Former Douglas County Probate Judge Christina Peterson is trying to have the charges against her dismissed.

On June 20 at around 3:15 a.m., police responded to a disturbance at the Red Martini Restaurant and Lounge in Buckhead, which has since closed.

An officer eventually arrested a woman who allegedly hit him. Police later learned that the woman arrested was Judge Peterson. She was charged with assault on a police officer and willful obstruction of justice.

After Peterson's arrest, she was removed from office by the Georgia Supreme Court.

Peterson hired Fulton County Commissioner Marvin Arrington Jr. as her attorney and wants the charges dropped.

Arrington said the officer lied about the beating and said his client was simply trying to help her friend who was being held by a man she did not know was a police officer.

The hearing to dismiss the charges against Peterson is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday at the Fulton County Courthouse.
