Man allegedly shot at neighbors in Mims

MIMS, Florida. – A Mims man arrested last week is accused of pulling out a gun and shooting at his neighbors during an argument, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Officers arrived in the 2800 block of Cypress Avenue around 7 p.m. on Aug. 14 and made contact with three victims – two women and a juvenile – who said the suspected shooter lived several doors down in the 2600 block of Pineapple Avenue. The defendant, 45-year-old Antonio Kent, was then placed in handcuffs while officers investigated, according to his affidavit.

One of the women told investigators she was walking her dog in the yard when Kent started a verbal argument with her from his porch, which escalated to the point where Kent allegedly went back into his house and returned with an apparent handgun, which he briefly pointed at her. The victim said Kent went back to his porch before returning to the yard and continuing the argument, at which point the woman called her roommate outside, the affidavit states.

With Kent and the roommates now in their respective yards, the juvenile began recording the events while partially hanging out a bedroom window, officials said. Kent allegedly returned to his porch and repeated “Say something else” while hiding his right hand behind him. The video then reportedly shows Kent moving his right arm, revealing an apparent firearm, which he pointed in the direction of the victims before five gunshots were heard. When the juvenile victim heard the gunshots, he quickly moved away from the window, according to the affidavit.

Kent acknowledged that the verbal altercation occurred, but told officers he never shot anyone, but only pointed a pellet gun at the victims. He added that the victims were the shooters and shot him approximately 10 times. The reporting officer notes that there is no evidence to support Kent's claims.

Inside Kent's home, officers found an air rifle that resembled a Glock, as well as a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver, a 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun and .223-caliber ammunition, the affidavit said.

According to records, Kent is charged with discharging a firearm on public or residential property, possession of a firearm, weapons and/or ammunition by a convicted felon and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He was held on $70,000 bail at his initial court appearance on August 15, and his arraignment is scheduled for September 12.
