Trial of financial crime defendants continues in Chile

The lawyer is known for having represented important businessmen, right-wing politicians, officials and state authorities, but is now involved in a dark network that is being investigated as the “Audios case”.

During this Thursday's session, the Public Ministry will proceed with the reading of the charges against Hermosilla, the lawyer Leonarda Villalobos and her husband Luis Angulo.

Prosecutors asked the Santiago Court of Guarantee to apply the precautionary measure of preventive detention because they consider the accused a danger to society that must be remedied, unless there are delays in the trial.

The “Audios case” has a major impact on the country as it has exposed an aspect of corruption and fraud in some high-level companies. It remains to be seen whether the accused will be placed in preventive detention or whether they will benefit from less drastic measures.
