Several people hospitalized after two accidents with injuries on US 23

CHILLICOTHE – The Jackson Communication Center received a call at 12:30 p.m. on August 21 regarding an accident with injuries on US 23 and Maple Lane in Ross County.

A 2017 Dodge Charger, driven by Kimberly Collura, 68, of Pickerington, was traveling north on US 23. A 2010 Ford Escape, driven by Dominik Littlejohn, 20, of Chillicothe, was traveling south on US 23. Collura was attempting to turn left onto Maple Lane when she was struck by Littlejohn's vehicle.

Littlejohn's passengers were Taylor Coyle, 21, of Chillicothe, and three juveniles, all of whom were taken to Adena Regional Medical Center. Two juveniles were later transported by ground to Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Kimberly Collura was flown from the accident scene by Medflight to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

The Ross County Sheriff's Office, Scioto Township Fire and EMS, Green Township EMS, Huntington Township EMS, Virginia Fire Department and Ohio Department of Transportation were all on scene. Traffic was restricted or stopped in both directions during the accident investigation.

During the investigation, a second crash occurred at 12:55 p.m. in the southbound lanes of US 23 near Three Locks Road. A 2021 International semi-truck driven by Charles Johnson, 34, of Groveport, was traveling south on US Route 23 when it was stopped for the crash ahead of it. While stopped, it was struck from behind by a 2020 Ford F-150 driven by Samuel Beeler, 58, of Chillicothe.

Beeler was transported from the scene of the accident to Grant Medical Center by MedFlight. His passenger was taken to Adena Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. Johnson reported no injuries as a result of the accident.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scioto Township Fire and EMS, VA Fire and EMS, MedFlight and the Ohio Department of Transportation. Southbound traffic was restricted during the investigation. Both crashes remain under investigation.
