David Beckham angered director with famous scene from “Victoria Interruption”

David Beckham has “upset” the director of his Netflix documentary “Fisher Stevens” by interrupting an interview with his wife Victoria.

The moment between the football legend and his wife, the Spice Girls star, quickly became iconic following the release of the documentary last year.

Now, as part of Variety makes a scene Series, Consequence Actor Stevens recalled how the scene came about and admitted that he was not happy with 49-year-old soccer star Beckham.

The fashion designer had been talking about her upbringing at the couple's home during filming when her husband – who they thought was not there – showed up.

When she says that they both come from “working class families,” he repeatedly tells her to “be honest.”

Then he says, “One answer. What car did your father drive you to school in?” And after much hesitation, she says, “In the 80s, my father had a Rolls Royce.”

Stevens was “mortified” by what had happened, telling the above publication: “I thought, 'What the hell is David doing here?' She was very embarrassed and nervous because he had obviously been watching.”

“… I said, 'What is he doing here, we had an agreement.'”

He continued: “I said, 'Okay, you have to go, man' … he left, I was sure. I didn't start again until I heard the door close.

“That interview changed everything, so it was kind of great that he was there in some way, and it was clearly a great moment for the movie, but it annoyed me.”

Beckham Editor Michael Harte agreed, saying the event “turned the scene completely on its head” but was “one of the most honest scenes” in the four-part special.

“You get a real insight into their relationship and the way they interact with each other,” he said, but said the biggest challenge was where to fit this “incredible” interaction.

Stevens described in detail how, with regard to future scenes with Victoria, “everything changed for the better”.

He also noted that he and father-of-four Beckham have a “good relationship” as jokes between them were seen on screen in the clip, which has been viewed over 10,000 times.

Newsweek has emailed representatives for David Beckham and Fisher Stevens for further comment.

The former previously spoke about the incident, which became a viral meme, to The Hollywood Reporterand confirmed that Stevens was “very angry with me because of that.”

The interview comes just weeks after the documentary received five nominations for the 2024 Emmy Awards.

The series is nominated for best documentary or non-fiction series and competes with Peace on set: The dark side of children's television, STAX: Soulsville USA, Telemarketing And The Curse – Part Two.

The film could also win awards for outstanding cinematography in a nonfiction program, outstanding directing in a documentary/nonfiction program, outstanding editing and outstanding music composition.
