Strahinja Jokić, the brother of Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić, appeared in Denver District Court on Wednesday on a misdemeanor assault charge and was issued a restraining order requiring him to stay away from the alleged victim.

Shelly Bradbury from the DenverPost As reported on Thursday, the charges stem from a brawl in April at Denver Ball Arena during a game between the Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers.

In addition to the protective order, Jokić must appear in court again in October to enter a plea and complete his fingerprinting.

He faces third-degree assault after video emerged showing him punching a man at the stadium after what police described as a “verbal exchange.” The alleged victim spoke to police and said he suffered a concussion as well as cuts and bruises to his face.

Jokić, who was charged in July, said he was defending an elderly man he knew.

The Nuggets star's older brother also ran into legal trouble in 2019 when he was “charged with assault and accused of choking and shoving a woman and then preventing her from calling 911,” Bradbury said.

He eventually pleaded guilty to trespassing and obstructing telephone service. However, the trespassing charge was dropped in 2022 after he completed court rules for unsupervised probation and committed no other crimes for two years.

The charges of false imprisonment and assault were dropped in this case as part of the agreement.

Jokić often sits courtside at Nuggets games and has participated in on-court celebrations with his brother and the team after playoff victories.
