Released Red Sox first baseman signs with new team

About a week ago, the Boston Red Sox brought Triston Casas back into their lineup after the first baseman was out for about four months due to injury.

With this move, the Red Sox cleared a roster spot by designating first baseman and fan favorite Dom Smith for assignment. And after Smith cleared the waivers list, he took some time to thank fans in a social media post.

Now, just days later, Smith has found a new team: ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that Smith is signing with the Cincinnati Reds.

The 29-year-old had a batting average of .237 with an OPS of .706, six home runs and 34 RBIs in 83 games with Boston this year.

Cincinnati is 5.5 games out of a Wild Card spot, so it's going to be tough for them to catch up and get into the postseason, but it would be great to see some big Dom Smith moments in playoff baseball.
