Big Sean is accused of imitating Baby Keem's rap style. He responds

Big Sean has been accused of imitating Baby Keem's rap style in his single “Yes,” as some listeners believe the song bears striking similarities to previously released tracks by Keem.

On Tuesday (August 20), Big Sean released the accompanying music video for “Yes,” which was directed by Diamond Visuals and presented by Lyrical Lemonade. During the song's chorus, Big Sean sings “Yes” in a way that some are comparing to Baby Keem's own performance, while also changing the pitch of his flow, another trademark Baby Keem is known for.

“We really live in a world where Baby Keem has 40-year-old sons,” one user wrote on social media following the song's release. While some listeners seemed unimpressed with Big Sean's latest offering, accusing him of stealing Baby Keem's style, others claimed the opposite, pointing to the rapper's previous songs in a similar vein, such as “Yes,” released years before Baby Keem's emergence.

“Sometimes I feel like a glazier defending Big Sean but the hate is so FORCED I feel like I have to fucking do it,” one commenter wrote. “This is literally the flow Sean has been doing for a long time. He has a song called 'The Baddest' that sounds similar. How the f*** does that sound like Baby Keem?” they asked. “They say that sounds like Baby Keem but if anything it shows that Big Sean has sons. Please remember you are arguing with children on this app.”

Sean himself responded on Wednesday evening with a tweet that followed the words of his fans: “Anyone who compares him to Baby Keem must not be familiar with his artistic work.”

One particular aspect of fans' accusations that Big Sean bit Baby Keem is Sean's past feud with Kendrick Lamar, Baby Keem's older cousin and frequent collaborator. The Detroit rapper recently spoke about how he and Kendrick reconciled following the release of Kendrick's song “Element,” which originally contained lyrics insulting him.

“The song came out and he changed that beat, it wasn't in the song anymore, it was a leaked verse,” Sean said of the diss. “I had to keep that in mind because I was mad when I heard it. He changed that on his own. He probably came to the conclusion that it was nothing.”

Sean says he and Kendrick had a conversation and that the Compton rapper has since apologized. “He kind of apologized for going so far as to let that shit come out,” Sean told Charlamagne Tha God during their meeting.

“When that crap leaks out, people say, 'Oh, did you hear what he said about you?' I'm not a restless ni**er, I'm solid and I stand by my stuff. We've already talked about it, I've already gotten an apology for it.”
