Kelce brothers' dispute: How Jason punched Travis in the face during a basketball game

There is nothing more beautiful than brotherly love – just like the Kelce brothers.

Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce and former Eagles star center Jason Kelce are two of the most popular siblings in sports. Both have had impressive careers in the NFL. The Kansas City player has three Super Bowl rings, the former Philadelphia star has one.

Since both Kelces played on offense, neither of them faced off on the field. Although their teams played against each other several times, including in Super Bowl LVII, which the Chiefs won 38-35, Jason and Travis did not engage in physical confrontation.

But that doesn't mean the two haven't had rivalries in the past. Jason described one argument that changed their relationship forever – for the better.

Here you can learn more about the childhood argument that resulted in violent blows between the Kelce brothers.

Battle of the Kelce brothers

Jason caught up with former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal on an episode of “The Big Podcast with Shaq” on Feb. 19. However, a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) brought the conversation back to light, with Kelce sharing details about a heated argument he had with his younger brother when they were little.

“We were outside in the backyard [playing basketball]and he started doing this stupid little over-the-shoulder hook shot, and he gets it every time, and there's nothing I can do to stop him,” Jason said. “So of course I resort to a foul – the only way I know to stop him. He says, 'That's bullshit – that's a foul.'

“I say, 'I don't see any refs out here, I don't see anybody blowing the whistle.' He picks up the ball, throws it at me and goes into the house. So I go in there, grab him by the shoulder and hit him.

“Look, we were arguing the whole time. That was only the second time I hit him. I don't know how it got so heated. I punched him in the face… He took the blow, picked me up and threw me to the kitchen floor so hard that the stove fell off where it was standing.”

The fight in the house became so bad that her father Ed had to intervene to prevent further physical violence between the two.

“Dad comes behind me to break up the fight, grabs me, and Travis pushes me back on Dad,” Jason said. “The only thing that stopped the fight was my dad screaming, 'Ouch, my ribs!' We thought we had hurt him, so we pulled ourselves together.”

Since then, the former Eagles star admitted that there had been no more arguments between the two.

“Seeing Dad like that and thinking we hurt him was a wake-up call,” Kelce said. “That was the last time we fought.”
