Meghan McCain criticizes Blake Lively as “insensitive” and “weird” over the “It Ends With Us” controversy: “I don't understand why she's famous”

Meghan McCain has criticized Blake Lively for being so rude during the press tour for her film It Ends With Us and claimed that the actress may have “really damaged” her career.

Blake, 36, has been criticized in recent weeks for apparently marketing her personal projects, including her hair care line and drinks company, based on a film that deals with domestic violence, which is a Adaptation of the bestseller by Colleen Hoover.

In the latest episode of her podcast “Citizen McCain,” Meghan stressed that domestic violence is “a very serious issue.”

“So if you “You have a responsibility to tell the story of a woman who is a victim of domestic violence. You have to be respectful and represent the victims, millions and millions of women and men who are victims of domestic violence,” she said of Blake.

Referring to Blake's press interviews for the film, Meghan continued: “I was very surprised by some of her answers. I think she's setting the tone in a lot of press circles as if she's saying, 'Put on your floral dresses and come together, girls.'”

Meghan criticized Blake, pictured here on August 5, for not being “respectful” to victims of domestic violence during the press tour for her film “It Ends With Us.”

“I don't want to put on a floral dress and watch a funny chick flick about domestic violence with my friends. I find that very insensitive and very… frankly weird,” said the former The View panelist.

“I don't understand why she's famous – other than for 'Gossip Girl' and because she's married to Ryan Reynolds. I can't really think of any films or projects she's been in. I don't think I've ever seen anything with her,” Meghan continued.

She then suggested: “I think celebrities need to be as media-trained as politicians these days. I think they need to understand that we live in completely different times.”

“And especially when you're a person in such a high-level, privileged situation – you're a beautiful blonde white woman married to a famous actor and you're both billionaires – you have to understand that these are different times.”

The outspoken TV star claimed at the time: “I think it really damaged her career because it definitely changed my perception of her a little bit.”

“The film is doing really well, but that doesn't mean it's going to go away, but I think a little humility and a little research into what you're portraying would be in order.

“I'm also so damn sick of hearing about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. I feel like I hear about them all the time because of their relationship with Taylor Swift and I'm just sick of hearing that and I think that's a dangerous situation for any celebrity or public figure. I'm just sick of hearing about both of them.”

When a video clip from the episode was posted on the podcast's official TikTok page, many of Meghan's followers were quick to comment and seem to agree with her.

One person claimed: “Blake misjudged the mood and confused this movie with Barbie Wear Flowers, so out of touch with reality,” while another person wrote: “Very well put. She could use some media training.”

A third person said: “Blake Lively has made herself so unlikable just through this press tour that it's almost poetic,” and a fourth added: “Unforgivable behavior from the actress. Simply insensitive.”

In a recent interview with Vogue, Blake said she did not “take on the role of Lily Bloom in It Ends With Us” “lightly” but “took the role seriously.”

“I am so proud of It Ends With Us. It was the most lavish film I have ever been involved in, both in front of and behind the camera,” she told the publication.

“That's why it's so personal to me. The book that Colleen wrote has resonated with so many people for so many years. To take on a role and star in a film that means so much was a huge responsibility and one that I did not take lightly.”
