Mid-American Conference introduces game-day injury reports in football

The Mid-American Conference has announced that it will implement reporting on the availability of student-athletes for football games effective with the 2024–25 academic season.

The move, announced Thursday morning, was adopted by the MAC Council of Directors of Athletics in July.

The use of student-athlete availability reports – commonly referred to as game day reports or injury reports – was first introduced in college sports by the Big Ten Conference prior to the 2023 season.

The Big Ten had previously pushed the NCAA to establish a national standard for injury reporting in 2018, but the national association opted to let conferences set their own injury reporting guidelines.

The MAC will be the second Football Bowl Division conference (and the first “group” conference) to make this policy mandatory, with the SEC also considering this policy for future seasons – however, some individual schools within the SEC are maintaining this policy.

Teams must submit their reports up to three hours before the start of a competition. If a school fails to submit this information, disciplinary action will be taken.

All injury reports are made available to the public. The MAC publishes the reports both on its homepage and via social media posts. On game days, injury information is updated as it becomes available at getsomemaction.com/fbreports.

The MAC will take note of any changes and adjust its policies as necessary throughout the season.

The MAC football season will begin on Thursday, August 29th with four games starting simultaneously at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Under the new policy, we would receive the first conference injury reports on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
