DC Superior Court Judge Eric Glover ruled during an August 22 hearing that there was sufficient evidence that a suspect committed a shooting.

Tyquan Wiggins, 19, is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (firearm) and possession of a weapon during a violent crime for allegedly being involved in a shooting on May 30, 2023, in the 1300 block of 5th Street, NW. One victim suffered a gunshot wound.

During the hearing, prosecutors presented evidence during a detective's testimony, including video footage from inside a supermarket near the scene of the incident, as well as footage from outside the supermarket on the block where the incident occurred.

Judge Glover also ruled that the defendant would remain in custody to ensure the safety of the community.

The parties are scheduled to reconvene for a status hearing on September 5.
