EastEnders airs the tragic death of Gloria Knight as she reveals final details about George's real parents

EastEnders has aired emotional scenes as Gloria Knight dies. Gloria, played by Elizabeth Counsell, suffered a heart attack in Wednesday's (April 10) scenes as her husband Eddie Knight (Christopher Fairbank) stood trial for the racially motivated murder of George's biological father.

In tonight's episode (April 11), Gloria wakes up in the hospital and asks George to retrieve a box from her apartment that contains important information about his childhood. Once at his parents' house, his curiosity gets the better of him and he opens the box, which contains a picture of his biological parents together.

Needing to let off steam, George went to the boxing club where he had a frank conversation with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), who had just learned that his son Ben had been sentenced to six years in prison in the US. George admitted that he was still angry with Gloria for keeping secrets from him, but a tearful Phil encouraged him to visit her so that she wouldn't die alone like his own mother Peggy.

When Phil reminded George that regret never fades, George took his advice and went back to the hospital. When he got there, George's ex-wife Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) told him that he was not with Gloria much longer because her condition was rapidly deteriorating and there was nothing the doctors could do.

Gloria explained to George that she was at peace with her fate and apologized for everything that had happened. George gently told Gloria that Eddie had been found guilty and was going to prison. He also told his mother that he loved her and had forgiven her before saying that she could live with him.

A weak Gloria then asked George to play the tape in the cigar box. It was a lullaby sung by George's biological mother. As the lullaby played in the background, she held her son's face. Gloria then died peacefully with George by her side.
