Man arrested for assault outside bar in downtown Columbia

COLUMBIA, Missouri (KMIZ)

A man accused of attacking another person outside a downtown Columbia bar on Aug. 10 was booked into the Boone County Jail on Wednesday.

David Jeremiah Moore, 19, was charged with first-degree assault. Casenet lists his address as Columbia, but the Boone County jail records show Fulton. An initial court date was set for Thursday afternoon.

According to the probable cause statement, Columbia police were called to Nash Vegas in the 900 block of East Broadway at 1:39 a.m. on Aug. 10. Police found the victim lying unconscious on the ground, the statement said. He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital, according to court documents.

A witness reportedly told police that the victim was struck twice by someone who drove away in a silver sedan, court documents say. Police were told – by someone whose connection to the case was not immediately clear in the probable cause statement – that the suspect was a man named “DJ” who was reportedly friends with people who worked at the bar.

The victim suffered a broken jaw and a broken eye socket, the statement said. Police reviewed a video provided by the bar that allegedly showed the victim sitting with a woman on a planter in front of the bar. Moore then allegedly approached the victim and the victim fell to the ground after being struck once on the head by Moore, the statement said.

The video then allegedly shows the victim standing up and walking toward Moore, and Moore punches him in the head again, court documents say. The victim then fell and struck his head on the pavement, court documents say. Moore was identified in the video by a Howard County detective, according to the probable cause affidavit.
