Head-on collision in northwest Houston leaves cars wrecked on Clay Road near War Memorial Street, police say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Two vehicles were demolished near a park in the northwest of the city following a head-on collision that is currently being investigated by Houston police.

According to Houston police, officers received a call about the accident in the 15300 block of Clay Road near War Memorial Soccer Park at 3:50 p.m. Thursday.

According to police, one vehicle crossed the median and collided head-on with another. A witness who called police reported that one of the cars may have caught fire at one point.

First responders called the rescue helicopter, but police did not know if the plane took anyone to the hospital.

SkyEye flew over the accident scene and filmed the front ends of both vehicles crushed by the impact. Some of the scene was too graphic to broadcast on Eyewitness News.

ABC13 traffic anchor Elissa Rivas said the accident occurred on a major residential thoroughfare in western Houston north of Interstate 10.
