Chargers finally receive positive update on Joey Bosa's injury

One of the biggest variables that will determine the success of the LA Chargers in 2024 is health. The Chargers struggled with unfortunate injuries last season, which played a big role in the team having its worst season since 2015.

With Jim Harbaugh bringing strength and conditioning guru Ben Herbert with him, Chargers fans are optimistic that the 2024 season will be different. Granted, injuries are part of the NFL and will always happen, but if the Chargers can limit injuries to their big stars, that will bode well for the team.

Although nothing serious happened in training camp, the Chargers' stars have unfortunately suffered lingering injuries. Justin Herbert had to wear a walking boot for two weeks, Rashawn Slater was shaken up, and Joey Bosa hasn't been seen since his hand/wrist injury in early August.

Both Herbert and Slater have made positive progress with their injuries and should be fit for the start of the 2024 season. However, Bosa has been radio silent and fans naturally began to worry about his availability after suffering injuries over the past two years. Thankfully, Bosa returned to the training field in some capacity on Thursday after nearly three weeks without training.

This is a great development for Bosa and the Chargers. The star edge rusher is still working on the sidelines and not fully participating in practice, but this is a step in the right direction.

The Chargers have been pretty tight-lipped about Bosa's injury. Whenever Harbaugh was asked about the former third-round pick, he simply said he was “working on something.” That has become Harbaugh's mantra, as he doesn't give too much away about his players' injury status.

With no information to go on, Chargers fans were naturally concerned that Bosa's injury would impact the regular season. After all, Bosa has been arguably the most injury-prone Charger over the past two seasons, so you can hardly blame fans for being concerned.

Bosa's return to training on Thursday is no guarantee that he will be fit for the start of the season. It is difficult to set a timetable for his return as the team has not provided any information on the severity of the injury.

However, the likelihood of Bosa being ready to play in Week 1 is much higher than if he takes another week or two to return. With Bosa returning to practice on Thursday, he officially has just over two weeks to get back in shape and ready to play in Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

In addition, Harbaugh said after practice that based on the information given to him, he expects Bosa to play in the first week against the Raiders, but still did not give any concrete information.

But if Bosa doesn't want to come back so quickly after his injury, that's OK, too. Edge rusher is one of the most heavily guarded positions on the Chargers' roster and can survive a game or two without Bosa.
