Jazz Chisholm avoids long injury break and returns for the Yankees-Rockies

New York Yankees fans can officially breathe a sigh of relief after it was announced that Jazz Chisholm's elbow injury will not require a long break.

Chisholm, who was placed on the injured list for 10 days on August 14 because of a sprained left elbow, had vowed that he would be able to return immediately after the minimum period of time required on the injured list, in this case 10 days.

This indeed appears to be the case, as reports suggest that Chisholm will be activated prior to the game against the Colorado Rockies on Friday, August 23. As part of a corresponding roster change, Oswald Peraza is expected to be demoted back to Triple-A.

There were some fears that Chisholm would require UCL surgery to repair his injured elbow, however, this ultimately proved unfounded and he will soon return after missing just eight games.

Since being signed by the Yankees, Chisholm has played primarily at third base, a new position for the 26-year-old who previously played second base and center field in his MLB career. In just 14 games for New York, he has posted a batting average of .257/.328/.445 with seven home runs and 11 RBIs. This year, he has 20 home runs and 27 stolen bases in 115 games.
