Did Mike Pence mock JD Vance over the donut shop incident? Fact-checking the claims

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Embarrassing exchange: JD Vance's attempt to strike up a conversation with a donut shop employee turned awkward when she refused to be filmed, reinforcing his reputation as “weird.”
  • False viral claim: A post circulating online claiming that Mike Pence made fun of JD Vance is completely baseless, and Pence has not commented publicly on the incident.
  • Past controversies: The “weird” label on Vance is related to previous controversial statements, including extreme views on Trump, Harris and parental voting rights.

A new video shows how the Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance turned the pleasant activity of buying donuts into a delightfully awkward interaction. Since the video went viral, there have been several reactions to JD's faux pas. Another post went viral suggesting that Mike Pence has attacked Vance. However, there is NO TRUTH behind this claim, as Mike Pence NOT has not commented on this incident.

Before the Ohio senator delivered his speech in Valdosta, Georgia, on Thursday, he walked into a doughnut shop. He introduced himself to the waitress, who immediately said she did not want to be filmed. This awkward exchange makes it harder for the Republican candidate to shake off the stigma of being “weird.”

Vance tried to start a conversation by asking the people behind the counter how long they had been there while the employee was filling his box of doughnuts. When he asked about the history of the place, an employee told him it had been in operation for four years.

Many major names took to their individual social media accounts to mock or defend JD Vance. However, Mike Pence's response went viral, although it was edited and is nothing but baseless. Going through Mike Pence's X-profile (Twitter) it is clear that this tweet FAKE. All day today, Pence has only reposted tweets from a page called “Advancing American Freedom” and nothing else.

The “weird” label placed on Vance stems from a series of videos and text conversations that have surfaced showing Vance's extreme views. Vance radically changed his opinion on Trump, calling Harris a “childless cat lady,” saying parents should have more voting rights than childless people, and describing pregnancy as the result of rape as “uncomfortable.”
