The Seven Deadly Sins murder trial continues and deals with Frederic Rogers' FBI interrogation after his arrest

DECATUR, Alabama (WAFF) – Much of Thursday's testimony revolved around the FBI's interrogation of Frederic Rogers after his arrest in Oregon.

Rogers, one of two people accused of killing seven people in a Valhermoso Springs home in June 2020, was arrested nearly two weeks after a traffic stop.

FBI agents recorded the interview and the jury was able to hear Rogers' side of events. In the interview, Rogers admitted to shooting three of the victims, but insisted it was not premeditated murder.

He told FBI agents that he and John Legg, the other man accused of murder, went to the house on Tulucah Road to settle an argument with some of the people there.

Rogers claimed he was in the garage of the house when he heard gunshots coming from the living room where Legg was.

He told agents that he thought Legg was in danger and began firing his weapon as well, believing it was a life-or-death situation.

Rogers' lawyers later said he only made these statements because he thought they would earn him a lighter sentence or lesser charges.

Comments from Rogers toward the end of the interview seemed to support this view. Rogers said he hoped to receive 10 to 15 years in prison if he cooperated.

While the agents who conducted the interview said that people who cooperate sometimes receive lighter sentences, they never promised Rogers that he would receive the same.
