On the first play of the second half, Chiefs third quarterback Chris Oladokun completed a pass to wide receiver Cornell Powell, who worked his way up the sideline and gained additional yards.

Bears cornerback Ro Torrence was the first player to the ball, but was unable to bring Powell down. Coleman came flying to make a play, but immediately went limp upon contact, immobilizing him as soon as he hit the ground.

Play was halted as both teams knelt around Coleman, who was carried off the field on a board and stretcher.
