Man arrested for murder in Pines Village shot suspect in broad daylight | Crime/Police

Arrest records for a man arrested Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting in Pines Village detail the moments he approached the victim in broad daylight and shot him at least twice.

Levi Johnigan, 31, was booked into the Orleans Parish Jail on Wednesday on a charge of first-degree murder after allegedly shooting 23-year-old Darrell Robinson Jr. on June 26.

Robinson was pronounced dead at 12:42 p.m. in the 4300 block of Stemway Drive, police wrote in documents filed in Criminal District Court.

Surveillance video footage showed a man wearing a white shirt and dark shorts, later identified by police as Johnigan, approaching the victim with a woman from Chef Menteur Highway. Johnigan then pulled out a firearm, took the victim's backpack and shot him twice, police wrote in court documents.

Johnigan allegedly ran across the street and shot Robinson twice more, who was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics shortly afterwards. Police court documents state that Johnigan then rode away on Robinson's bicycle.

The woman, who was with Johnigan at the time, also fled and ran to a nearby apartment complex in the 6000 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

Additional footage from those apartments shows Johnigan and the woman leaving the apartment and arriving at the crime scene earlier in the day, court records show.

Apartment managers identified the woman and said the man was her boyfriend, although they did not know his identity. Police found evidence that Johnigan's girlfriend had previously reported him for domestic violence and identified him from those reports.

Johnigan is awaiting a Gwen's Law hearing scheduled for next week to determine whether he will be held without bail.
