Man arrested for embezzling funds from Oklahomans for Equality Center

Tulsa police have arrested a man who allegedly embezzled $130,000 from the Oklahomans for Equality Center.

The group filed a police report in September 2022, claiming that Paul Allen had embezzled the money.

According to the report, Paul Allen served as the Equality Center's volunteer treasurer from 2008 to 2022 and had access to its credit cards and checkbooks.

It states that the board asked Allen in 2020 to conduct an audit and present it to the board.

The original police report states that Allen continually misled the board about the progress of the audit, continually missed deadlines and was unable to provide the name of the accounting firm he had hired to conduct the audit.

Allen eventually admitted to faking the exam and resigned in February 2022.

The Equality Center eventually conducted an audit that revealed $135,000 in potential losses between 2018 and 2022, including $66,000 in checks written to Allen.

It says Allen also spent over $1,100 to pay for health insurance and then changed the name of the transaction in accounting software.

According to court records, Allen was released from jail on $10,000 bail.
